After Placement of Dental Implants
DO NOT chew directly on the implant area until your implant has been tested and verified as integrated by your doctor. Chewing directly onto a dental implant may significantly increase the risk of failure and is to be avoided. We recommend chewing on the other side of your mouth until the implant is tested. In regards to hygiene, we recommend gentle tooth brushing in the area of implant surgery for 1-2 weeks after the procedure. Once this time frame is complete the gum tissue will have healed adequately at this site and normal tooth brushing may begin at the surgical site. If you notice the healing abutment (cap on top of the implant) getting loose or taller or it has fallen out, please call the office. In some cases a healing abutment is not placed at the time of initial surgery.
It is our desire that your recovery is as smooth and pleasant as possible. Following these instructions will assist you, but if you have questions about your progress please call our office. PLEASE TRY TO CALL DURING OFFICE HOURS. Calling during office hours will afford a faster response. However, you may call us after hours and an answering service will take your call and contact a doctor.
